I would recommend checking out the Society For Technical Communication if you are in the US. That would be a great way to get some experience, and to learn about a field of interest! Pro tip - there are grad students who would LOVE to have you proofread their dissertations and academic articles. If you find an industry that you’d like to work in, I would recommend getting some experience writing in that field. For example, there are technical writers who specialize in documenting software (such as myself), some that work in grant writing, and some that work in the medical field. Learn about what it’s like to earn your bachelor’s or master’s in computer science online. Build a foundation in information technology (IT) with the Google IT Support Professional Certificate on Coursera. There are a lot of different kinds of technical writers - I would do a bit of research and see what type of technical writing interests you. Now that you’ve learned about what you can do with a computer science degree, it’s time to take the next step on your career journey. ![]() It’s certainly possible, but you will need some additional experience.
